The Great Aussie Camp Out (GACO), will did bring together thousands of Australians for one big night under the stars on Saturday the 8th of October, where they can shared the experience of camping. Outdoors WA works each year at the state level to support this Australian Camping Association initiative.
It is exciting that in 2016 we have a number of events happening with our partners in WA.
Big Camp Out – all Dads & kids

The Big Camp Out offers fathers the chance to spend quality one-on-one time with their child in a unique camping experience.
Camp under the stars at Domain Stadium, home of the West Coast Eagles & Fremantle Dockers, and make memories to last a lifetime. The Big Camp Out is a new partnership event between The Fathering Project and Outdoors WA.

The Department of Sport and Recreation has a number of exciting camp outs planned across the month.

Ern Halliday: 7-9 October, 2016. Camp out under the stars in the Sanctuary in the Suburbs at the Ern Halliday Recreation Camp. Share stories of your adventures around a camp fire.
There will also be an additional Outdoor October Family Weekend at Bickley: Saturday 22-23 October 2016.
Parks and Wildlife Campout
The Department of Parks and Wildlife are once more running a GACO event at Yanchep National Park. This´introduction to camping´ event – Saturday 8 October 2016,
Explore the beautiful surrounds of Yanchep National Park, play in nature, follow a walk trail and experience family-friendly camping in a natural bush environment just 50km from Perth city. This event will give you the opportunity to camp with the support of experienced campers who will be on hand to help you set up. A welcome pack of self-guided activities will be provided so you can make the most of your camping experience. More

It’s not GACO night yet, but if you are looking for a spot to camp go to The Department of Parks and Wildlife Park Stay site.
Outdoors WA is the local partner with the Australian Camps Association supporting GACO in WA. In 2016 we have partnered with the Department of Sport and Recreation who provide family camping at their campsites and the Department of Parks and Wildlife welcomes as many people into its National Parks as possible.
In WA we have plenty of fantastic camping opportunities across our big state, our challenge is to have more people out camping than any other state.
Participation is free and you can register online at www.greataussiecampout.org.au. Go on camp in your backyard, on a river bank, on a farm, in one of the hundreds of National Parks, at a residential camp or caravan park. For those needing some advice in planing their camping experience, the GACO website has some with great tips and resources available, including a list of events happening in WA and right around Australia.
GACO and schools
Camping out on the school oval is a great way to build community and introduce camping to students. Why not talk to your P&C about having a school camp out in October. Download the GACO school flyer.
