Day 31: Yagan Memorial Park – A site for understanding and remembering Yagan.

A unique place created to commemorate the life, death and spirit of the great Noongar leaders and warrior, Yagan, and as a burial site for his repatriated Kaat (head).

Yagan’s body was buried on the site where he was killed and his Kaat was taken as a trophy to England.  After 164 years, his Kaat was finally returned to Australia for burial in accordance with the Noongar custom.  Now that his Kaat is respectfully laid to rest, Yagan’s spirit is set free to continue on its eternal journey.
